Park Service Abuses Spark New ‘Battle of Yorktown’

Amid Growing Complaints, Government Unblocks View of Mount Rushmore. Blocking the pullouts on the road with cones? Seriously?

Last week it started when the WWII Vets took and occupied the WWII Memorial. This Sunday it continues with the Million Vet March on the Memorials. This is the 17th government shutdown since 1977. None of the other 16 shutdowns resulted in barricades around our memorials, people being run out of their privately owned homes, or private restaurants being shut down. This time, there are reports from government employees who say they have been told to make the public as miserable as possible. I’m so proud of our vets for taking action against this unnecessary melodrama, and I support them 100%.

I find it somewhat ridiculous that memorials and parks that are normally open 24/7 without any access control whatsoever are now suddenly closed. And people being forced out of their own homes? When that was tried in South Africa in the 60s it eventually led to a revolution!

What a great list of links, Piper!

I understand some of the parks are easier to access than others. Friends of ours are on a mission to visit every national park. They got to one just after the shutdown but found many locals telling visitors where to hike in and enjoy the area (much to the park rangers’ distaste, evidently). The local businesses found a way to keep people coming in. I love that! And our friends got to check another park off their list.

    • Piper Bayard says:

I love it, too. I’ve heard stories, though, of people caught, kicked out, and fined for walking onto National Park land at the Grand Canyon. I would venture to guess that there are more people on duty harassing Americans at this point than there ever were patrolling in the first place. #DRAMA So glad the locals are helping out the visitors! I want to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend and touch a tree for freedom. Let’s Occupy National Parks!

      • My Realtor and ranted, and suggested doing this very thing, Piper!

Yes. I know your loss of the presidential race was a bitter disappointment. Even more so now…

But, gear up! Let’s take our parks back.

Do NOT get me started on ObamaScare. This crisis would be OVER if the mandate was applied to everyone — legislatures, their staff, their political cronies.

The next Law of the Land? Congress MUST include themselves, the executive branch, and the judicial branch in ALL laws made mandatory for ALL Americans.

I don’t recall fiefdom anywhere in the constitution. Could be wrong, but…

        • Piper Bayard says:

Keep in mind that it’s the executive branch that is solely responsible for interpreting how the shutdown should play out. It is the executive branch that orders putting cones on roads by Mt. Rushmore, barricades around memorials, and running people out of their houses. And I couldn’t agree with you more about Congress living by the laws they make for other people. When Congress and the president exempt themselves from the laws they make, they are not leaders, they are rulers. Rulers are repugnant to the American system.

          • Yup! I’m well aware of who is behind the decisions to make this government shutdown as painful as possible.

Thrilled they’re keeping the state-of-the-art spa and exercise facilities open through this crisis. With all the pork consumed daily…

Don’t get me started. The bigger question is, “How do we get our country back in the hands of the people?”

Go ‘head, En Es Eh, tape that one!

          • Piper Bayard says:

Shall I start working on my next presidential campaign? 🙂

  3. HOWLED over the vacation complaints.

And, a lizard leaped on my laptop to learn the latest on lesus and the lesuits. I sent a pic via email. Would tweet it out, but I’m APPARENTLY Twitter Challenged in that arena.

  4. And may Lesus bless you for including my blog in you post.

  5. I was going to visit America this week, but it was closed… 🙂 What would Lesus say about this?

Such things cannot happen in New Zealand, constitutionally – if the government loses its Supply and Confidence arrangement in the House, we get a new government. Still, at least your national parks get left alone – there is an effort in NZ to start strip-mining ours. Billions of tons of coal under them. Won’t affect the Middle Earth look, of course, as long as you’re a fan of Mordor.

    • Piper Bayard says:

I hate to say it, but “America” has been closed for about 20 years now. Sorry to hear about the efforts to strip mine in NZ. It’s such a pristine place, and there’s no excuse for this planet not having efficient fuel without having to tear up our land to get it. Lots of reasons, all of them having to do with politicians, CEOs and dollar signs, but no excuses. Let’s hope NZ finds a way to get the Gollums into the fires before the whole place is Mordor. Good luck!

  6. I hadn’t even heard about the medals… oh my! And thanks for the linkage today! ❤

  8. Jess Witkins says:

I kind of think the medals thing is hilarious. Oh well.

Awesome links once again…I think that dancer has no bones.

  9. Wow she is crazy strong! And I usualy don’t get snarky about spelling because I suck at spelling, but um- they should be able to spell Jesus’ name correctly.
