DD and her friend, Livi, pulled me to my first Comic Con, and it was a hoot!
We arrived almost two hours late, and the lines to get in were still substantial.
DD and Livi dressed as UltraViolet and a bow-tied Dr. Who fan, respectively, on the first night.
DD went steampunk on Day Two.
Two of the first celebrities we saw were Han Solo and Princess Leia.
We also saw Star Gate Command . . .
Iconic cars . . .
And a number of people who once more proved that Spandex is a privilege, it is not a right. I spared myself (and you) those pictures.
We also found evidence that typos are not limited to my blogs or even to this plane of existence.
This isn’t a great picture of the poster. . . . Perhaps with another whetstone.
There were a number of outstanding costumes, but the best ones seemed to be on the guys.
But the biggest hit of the night? Had to be the Peeping Tom Bear outside the convention center. This bear had nothing to do with Comic Con, and everything to do with our taxpayer dollars at work. Oh, well. It gave me a laugh.

It is! I hadn’t even noticed that one. Probably because that’s my own favorite typo. 🙂

LOL. Funny you should ask that. I actually wanted to dress up, but teen angst took the day. “No, Mom! OMG! Are you trying to embarrass me!?!” I figured it was her event and let it go. That and I didn’t have time to put together a really good costume, which mattered just as much. 🙂

This made me grin. Especially the bear (ha I started to type beer–so glad I caught that!).
The closest thing I’ve been to this is the car show here in DC. I am a car buff. In fact, I used to sell cars, so for me, heaven involves cars. A lot of them. An M3 is my Hans Solo. Yep.

Ha! This is so fantastic! I’m glad you had fun. And once again I feel I want to quote you on a bumper sticker: “Spandex is a privilege, it is not a right.”
We saw some seriously scary stuff. One of my first acts as president will be to enact a licensing program for Spandex. 🙂
Spandex: makes you wonder if Mayor Bloomberg had the right idea for NYC, but just targeting the wrong product. LOL

We go to Comic-Con in San Diego every year. We don’t have the huge bear, but it is a whole lot bigger than Denver’s CC. Lots of freaks and geeks, as we like to say. We’re in the geek crowd, but every so often I drift over to the freak section. It’s always way too much fun.
I love your daughter’s steampunk costume. Last year I saw the cutest little steampunk pug. On a Harley, no less! Next year you need to dress up. Don’t let those teens say no, it’s too much fun!
I’ve heard Comic Con in San Diego is a blast. I love how you describe it. And a steampunk pug on a Harley? Now there’s a picture I want. 🙂

Looks like a very good time had by all – great pix.
We get ’em in Wellington with a heavy Weta Workshop focus, usually flogging Dr Grordbort’s steampunk ray guns, but I confess I’ve never been. My teenage niece goes regularly to the equivalent in the Netherlands & has great fun. It’s themed over there, usually some fantasy focus & held in the grounds of an 1890s Dutch folly-chateau-castle which, in true Python fashion, actually is collapsing into its own moat.
Collapsing into a moat? Wow! They really do it up right! I’d like to go to that one, too. 🙂
One night we showed up at the Dallas Hyatt Regency for drinks, unaware that Comic Con was underway. A very strange evening.
I’ll bet! What a wonderful opportunity for people watching. 🙂
I’m with Renee, sad to see you didn’t dress up. But I wouldn’t want your daughter to be ridiculed, not at Comic Con! 😉
These pictures are awesome! And the Han Solo and Leia remind me of a Halloween where a couple friend of mine dressed opposite sex as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Pretty funny! Love it!

Fabulous! We used to take Megn to the Buffy conventions. She spoke with ‘Spike’ and ended up on stage with him. They are geeky things, but soooo much fun 🙂

Marsters was at the Denver Comic Con, but we didn’t even see him, much less get near him. Apparently, he didn’t get my email about me basing a character on Spike in my WIP, and how I really needed to spend an evening with him picking his brain. Can’t imagine why he didn’t jump on that opportunity. 🙂
